Abstract
:
the emergence of information commnication technology (ICT) and internet has opened up the world due to its distinctive characteristics particularly shared information real -time access global and openness. The boom of internet as favored meduium for disclosing financial and non-financial information has changed the way information flow from companies to stakholders . The traditonal way papers based reporting paradigm continues to diminish and moving toward online reporting. this changing pattem of disclosing organizational performance however contradicts in malaysian public sector environment only a few public organizations departmance however contradicts in lalaysian public sector enviroment only a few public organizations departments and agenciesor statutory bodies utilize the internet to disclose annual perfomance report in fact such situation is against the aspiration of electronic govermante (e-govermante )initiative launched by federal govermante in 1997 besides such situation hinder the effort to cultivate better corporate govermante in malaysian public sector. thus this paper aims to survey the effort of state of melka public sector thus, this papers aims to survey the effort of state of melka public sector agencies to disclose their annual performance through online the final sample consists of 55 public departments , agencies and statutory bodies in the inactive and only one agency disclose only highlight of financial information this explanatory research is very signifacant in providing initial understanding that there are lots of opportunities to improve the regulatory framework as well as encouraging voluntarily financial disclosure among public sctor in the state against the aspiration of electronic government (e - government) initiative launched by federal govemnent in 1997. Besides such situation hinder the effort to cultivate better corporate governan:e in Malaysian public !lector. Thus, this paper aims to wrvey the effort of state of Melaka. public sector agencies to disclo!le their annual performance through online. The final sample consists of 55 public _partments, agencies and statutory bodies in the state. 1k findings is S1Irprising that only 47% or 26 agencies have official websites; S websites are treated inactive; and only one agency disclose only highlight of f'mancial infonnation.
