Abstract
:
Recent years have seen great attention towards pollution control and assessment of trace heavy metal ions including chromium (VI) and phenols in water because of their harmful effects on human health and life. Thus, the overall work in this study was focused on: vi. Carrying a complete literature survey on pollution of environmental water samples by heavy metal ions including chromium (VI). Great attention has been paid towards the use of various solid phase extractor (SPE) for removal and/or minimization of chromium (VI) and selected phenols species and other heavy metal ions in environmental water samples e.g. industrial and demotic water samples. vii. Nanosized materials e.g. Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) chemically treated polyurethane foams (PUFs) was successfully characterized and used as a nanosized solid phase extractor for pre-concentration of chromium (VI) from aqueous media. viii. The impact of various analytical parameters affecting separation and/or complete removal of chromium (VI) ions as chlorochromate [CrO3Cl-] was critically studied by AgNPs treated polyurethane foams. Moreover, the kinetics, thermodynamic parameters (ΔH, ΔS and ΔG) and adsorption isotherms of chromium(VI) uptake. ix. PUFs treated AgNPs was also packed in column and was successfully used for chromatographic separation of chromium (III & VI) species in water. x. Chromatographic separation of selected phenol was critically studied by iron(III) treated PUFs. xi.
