This study aimed to examine the relationship between psychological hardness, meaning of life, and social support, and the ability of social support to predict the level of psychological hardness and meaning of life. The study also aimed to examine the differences between the means of study sample in social support, psychological hardness, and the meaning of life due to demographic variables: gender, nationality, age, prison sentence, economic level, educational level, and type of crime. The researcher used the descriptive, correlational, predictive, and comparative approach in the current study. To collect study data, the researcher used the social support scale developed by Al-Anzi (2017), the psychological hardness scale developed by Al-Najjar and Al-Tala`a (2012), and the meaning of life scale developed by Steger et al. (2006) and translated by the researcher on the study sample comprising (400) male and female prison inmates from Makkah region. The results showed a statistically significant relationship between psychological hardness and meaning of life, a statistically significant relationship between social support and psychological hardness, and no relationship was found between social support and meaning of life. The findings also revealed statistically significant differences between group means in social support due to age, prison sentence, economic level, and type of crime, statistically significant differences between group means in psychological hardness due to gender, age, educational. Differences were also found in the meaning of life due to educational level. The results also indicated that social support has a predictive ability to predict the level of psychological hardness but does not predict the level of meaning of life. Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommended developing counseling and therapeutic programs for prison inmates to promote their psychological hardness and meaning of life, which may also improve their rehabilitation experience inside the prisons and make optimal use of the social support provided to them.
