Abstract
:
This study aimed to discover the relationship between the availability of the characteristics of smart organizations and the organization's ability to manage crises at (KAU) in Jeddah. It also aimed at defining the impact of the availability of the characteristics of smart organizations in their dimensions (understanding the environment, strategic vision, continuous learning, intelligent operations, collective intelligence) on crisis management at KAU; and clarifying the differences among the study sample members regarding the availability of the characteristics of smart organizations and crisis management at KAU according to the following demographic variables: gender, age, academic qualification, years of experience, and job title. The study used the descriptive correlational survey method, using the questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The study sample of (370) members was selected by a simple random sampling method from the study population of (9669), and (337) questionnaires were analyzed after excluding the number of some questionnaires that were not useable for statistical analysis. The study obtained many results, the most important of which are the following: There is a positive high direct relationship between the availability of the characteristics of smart organizations and the organization’s ability to manage crises with a correlation coefficient of (0.781) at a statistical significance (0.000); and there is an effect of the availability of the characteristics of smart organizations in all their dimensions on crisis management at KAU, except for the dimension of “continuous learning”; while there were no statistically significant differences among the responses of the sample members regarding the availability of the characteristics of smart organizations and crisis management at KAU, according to all demographic variables. In light of these results, the study made some recommendations, the most important of which are: follow-up to support the characteristics of the smart organization at KAU due to its great and positive role in the university’s functioning, raise the quality of its outcomes, and placing the university among the world’s most prestigious universities; benefiting from the experiences of recognized smart organizations in the Arab world and internationally, and developing similar plans commensurate to the university work environment. This is in addition to intensifying the number of training courses and theoretical and practical workshops specialized in the field of crisis management and making them available to all university affiliates.
